View DetailsTHE ROLE OF PARENT-SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT IN IMPROVING STUDENT LEARNING AND ACHIEVEMENT
| Published: October 10, 2022
Abstract: Programs focused on increasing parental involvement in education have positive impacts on children, families, and school communities (Catalano & Catalano, 2014; Jeynes, 2012). Similarly, this positive relationship makes children feel like the important people in their life are working together. This study aimed to determine the role of parent-teacher involvement in improving the learning and achievement of the students. It involved 38 Grade 10 students of Suyo NHS and their parents/guardians. The study employed a survey and a questionnaire using the frequency as the statistical tool. The validity index was 4.69, which means it is valid. Likewise, the Cronbach’s alpha resulted in a reliability score of 0.81, which implies that it is reliable. Results of the study showed that parents have different ways of involving themselves in the education of their children. Among these were participating in the different activities of the school, spending time with their children for 3-5 hours a day doing leisure time, conversation, and helping them with their school requirements. Additionally, parents provide for the needs of their children as well as constant communication with the school authorities wherein parents could involve themselves in the education of their children. Therefore, with the involvement of parents in the school, the performance of the children tends to improve. The more comprehensive and well-planned the partnership between teachers and parents, the higher the students learning achievement. Finally, a dynamic PTA should be organized in every school is highly recommended.

| Published: October 10, 2022
Abstract: Science is a core subject in the curriculum that teaches children necessary skills that they can use in other areas of their lives. This study determined the general level of performance of Grade IV pupils in science subject of the Cabugao South Central School and Special Education Center during the diagnostic test of School Year 2018-2019. The teacher handling Science IV conducted the said test to determine the present level of performance of the pupils. The raw scores of the pupils in a 40-item teacher-made paper and pencil with an average validity score of 4.67 from the three consulted experts were gathered and statistically analyzed. The mean and percentage of mastery were computed using the raw scores gathered. Furthermore, the frequency of scores obtained was used to identify the general performance of the pupils. The following descriptors were utilized: excellent (36 to 40), very good (31 to 35), good (24-30), average (21-25), needs improvement (16-20) and poor (15 and below) (Kirby, 2001).The results indicated that the general level of performance of Grade IV pupils may need improvement, hence there is a need for them to learn and master most of the learning competencies enclosed in the Science Grade IV Curriculum. Moreover, it is further suggested that Science teachers must be innovative in teaching the subject (Hussein, 2006). Relative to this, strengthening the SCI-FUN Program would be very beneficial in terms of creating a high level of motivation, a pleasant, interesting, and collaborative learning environment.
