Abstract:
Programs focused on increasing parental involvement in education have positive impacts on children, families, and school communities (Catalano & Catalano, 2014; Jeynes, 2012). Similarly, this positive relationship makes children feel like the important people in their life are working together. This study aimed to determine the role of parent-teacher involvement in improving the learning and achievement of the students. It involved 38 Grade 10 students of Suyo NHS and their parents/guardians. The study employed a survey and a questionnaire using the frequency as the statistical tool. The validity index was 4.69, which means it is valid. Likewise, the Cronbach’s alpha resulted in a reliability score of 0.81, which implies that it is reliable. Results of the study showed that parents have different ways of involving themselves in the education of their children. Among these were participating in the different activities of the school, spending time with their children for 3-5 hours a day doing leisure time, conversation, and helping them with their school requirements. Additionally, parents provide for the needs of their children as well as constant communication with the school authorities wherein parents could involve themselves in the education of their children. Therefore, with the involvement of parents in the school, the performance of the children tends to improve. The more comprehensive and well-planned the partnership between teachers and parents, the higher the students learning achievement. Finally, a dynamic PTA should be organized in every school is highly recommended.
