Abstract:
Teen-age pregnancy is a threat and the magnitude of its effects continues to affect the country and its people. The teenager, both the pregnant and the one who induced the pregnancy, are victims. The study carried out a phenomenology on the experiences of 14 male senior high school students who impregnated their female classmates in the same school where they are enrolled. Purposive type of sampling was used using the following inclusion criteria: (1) high school learners of the SDO Ilocos Sur, (2) male (3) with parents’ consent and (4) willing to participate as a respondent od the study. The researcher used the interview guide to gather the data. This was recorded and transcribed to extract the significant statements and meaning. The researcher analyzed the qualitative data that were gathered from the fourteen (14) participants. The data were analyzed using Husserl’s (2009) phenomenological steps. Significant findings revealed the emergence of seven (7) major themes. These major themes are supported by sub-themes and significant statement. The following are the major themes: (1) Celebration of Life, (2) Education Not a Priority, (3) Squandered Efforts of Parents, (4) Deluge of Emotions, (5) Burdens of a Young Father, (6) The Dark Side of Teenage Pregnancy, and (7) Silver Linings of a Teenage Pregnancy. The study strongly recommends comprehensive sex education focusing on holistic understanding of sexual abstinence, contraceptive techniques and its appropriate consequences.
