Abstract:
The study assessed the use of interactive crossword puzzle in improving the vocabulary skills of Grade IV learners of Suyo Central School, Suyo District, Schools Division of Ilocos Sur. An experimental research using the one-shot pretest-posttest design and a total enumeration of 15 Grade IV learners were used. A researcher-made test was administered as the data gathering instrument. Frequency, percentage, mean and t-test were used to treat the data gathered. During the pretest, the level of vocabulary skills of the respondents was fair wherein 66.67 percent of them got 21-40 scores. During the posttest however, the respondents’ level of vocabulary skills became very satisfactory when 60 percent of them got 61-80 scores. There was a significant difference found between the vocabulary skills of the learners before and after their exposure to interactive crossword puzzle evidenced by 41.77 t-value. The following recommendations were offered: 1) Language teachers should use interactive crossword puzzle to improve the vocabulary skills of the Grade IV learners. 2) Other language teachers in the other grade levels may use the interactive crossword puzzle using the same procedure. 3) Likewise, teachers in the other disciplines may use interactive crossword puzzle to improve the memory retention, creativity and other skills of their learners.
