Abstract:
The study focused on the assessment of the status of level of performance and instructional material especially in Science for Grade 5 learners in Tagudin District. The result served as benchmark in the preparation of teaching supplemental material for Science 5. It utilized the quantitative method with the descriptive-developmental design of research in obtaining the data needed in the study. Results indicated that: The level of performance of the grade 5 learners in Science 5 is very satisfactory. There are instructional materials in Science for Grade 5 learners but they wanted to have more supplemental teaching material. There are mastered competencies found to be strengths and nearing mastery and least mastered competencies found to be weaknesses. Teaching supplemental material will help to improve the Science performance of the Grade 5 learners. The following conclusions were drawn: The level of the grade 5 learners in Science have improved. There are instructional materials in Science for Grade 5 learners but more teaching supplemental material are wanting. The determination of strengths and weaknesses of the learners is an effective way of identifying the needs in developing teaching supplemental material. Teaching supplemental material are essential to be developed to help learners meet the learning competencies. The developed teaching supplemental material is timely, relevant and appropriate in enhancing the knowledge, understanding and performance of the Grade 5 learners in least mastered competencies.
