Abstract:
Quantum numbers describe values of conserved quantities in the dynamics of a quantum system. In the case of electrons, the quantum numbers can be defined as "the sets of numerical values which give acceptable solutions to the Schrödinger wave equation for the hydrogen atom". The diagnostic examination in General Chemistry I for SHS reflected that the lesson on Quantum Number is hard and/ least mastered by the students. This challenged the researchers to look for innovative strategies to help the ones who are left behind in the classroom.\r\nAccording Furner (2020), children are active learners who master concepts by progressing through three levels of knowledge--concrete, pictorial, and abstract. The use of manipulatives enables students to explore concepts at the first, or concrete, level of understanding. When students manipulate objects, they are taking the necessary first steps toward building understanding and internalizing processes and procedures. \r\nThis study primarily aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Quantum Number Generator in improving the performance of the SHS- STEM students in Quantum Numbers. \r\nThe subjects involved in this study were the 34 Grade 11 STEM in Sinait National High School. The section was divided into two (2) groups, Group A was taught through Quantum Number Generator while Group B underwent Traditional way. The study was laid in Quasi-Experimental Research Design. The statistical tools used in the study were the following: (1) mean to determine the level of validity of the Quantum Number Generator and level of performance of the respondents in quantum numbers ; (2) t-test for correlated samples to determine the significance of differences of the means posted between the pretest and post test; and (3) t-test for uncorrelated samples to determine the significance of differences of the means posted between the two groups.\r\nThe following points were the reflections of the researchers after the thorough conduct of the study. The teaching material is Very High in Validity and can be used for learning process on Quantum Number. There is a significant difference between the level of performance in Quantum Numbers of the SHS-STEM students after being taught though Quantum Number and the traditional way. Group A is higher in terms of the pre-test and post test mean scores than that of Group B. There is a significant difference between the level of performances of the SHS-STEM students in Quantum Numbers.
