Abstract:
By the turn of the century, one of the difficulties for the area of basic education is to sufficiently prepare all learners to study and to join a global world capable of nation-building, earning a fair living via suitable pay, and being lifelong learners. Through a phenomenological approach, the study examined and uncovered the lived experiences of successful senior high school learners in the Schools Division of Ilocos Sur of the Department of Education. It recruited ten (10) senior high school students as study participants and ended data gathering after saturation was obtained. The research used an interview guide to elicit lived experiences and significant themes over the course of the investigation. The respondents\' narrations were transcribed and examined to ascertain their lived experiences using thematic analysis by Colaizzi. Three key themes emerged from the participants\' narratives. These are (1) This is Not a Piece of Cake, (2) There Are No Fish in the Ocean, and (3) There Is Light at the End of the Tunnel. The following recommendations are based on the findings: (1) Comprehensive and collaborative assistance from local government units and various government agencies to support the needs of all learners in their community in uplifting their economic circumstances so that education is within reach; and (2) school administrators to work diligently to provide academic assistance to senior high school graduates so they can attend college, earn a living through employment, improve their skills and competencies, and enter a new business.
