Abstract:
Language is regarded as one of the most vital considerations that influences the education of every learner. Truthfully, Mother Tongue as a lingua franca provides learning skills for quality education. (Williams, Metila, Pradilla, & Digo, 2014). The study dealt with the assessment of the current status of implementation of Mother Tongue Based-Multilingual Education in terms of level of adequacy of instructional materials, level of teachers’ preparedness, and; level of learners’ preparedness. The descriptive-correlational and developmental research design (Edmonds & Kennedy, 2017) were employed to interpret the results of the study. The respondents of this study were the 21 school heads and 84 Kindergarten to Grade 3 MTB-MLE teachers of Tagudin District. Total enumeration was employed. Frequency, percentage, mean and Pearson correlation were utilized to quantify and analyze the data. The results were the bases in crafting a training program to retool the Mother Tongue Based-Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) teachers of Tagudin District. The findings of the study exhibited the basic interplay of school heads and teachers to best realize the implementation of MTB-MLE in Tagudin District. However, teachers’ needs for learning and development was established. This circumstance led the study in the development of a training program underpinning the knowledge and skills of MTB-MLE teachers. Thus, the well-defined training design gained commendable rating based on the judgment of expert evaluators. Indeed, the established appropriate and timely training program strengthens the implementation of MTB-MLE in Tagudin District for School Year 2019-2020.
