Abstract:
The educational systems worldwide are continuously adopting means on how to make teaching be more interesting and for learning to be meaningful to learners. However, teachers experience many encounters and these change the way they teach their lessons. This study explored the challenges in integrating Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in teaching Mathematics in the secondary schools of the Schools Division of Ilocos Sur for the School Year 2018 – 2019. It utilized the descriptive - correlational design employing questionnaire as data collection tool. Said instrument was administered to 71 respondents. Consequently, frequency count and percentage distribution, mean, standard deviation, multiple linear correlation and t-test were used for data analysis. It found out that the respondents have low level usage of computer, internet and ICT but with high-level of confidence and opinion on using ICT. Additionally, the level of confidence in integrating ICT is significantly related to the socio-demographic and teaching-related factors of the respondents. It is, therefore, recommended that teachers should attend trainings on ICT integration in teaching and other related courses, be provided with ICT equipment/gadgets, teach only Mathematics subject and have their number of teaching hours per day lessened, and be encouraged to use online teaching or learning media forms more often.
