Abstract:
This action research aimed to enhance the mastery skills of the grade 8 learners in molecular genetics by using the ASI activity sheets. The teacher-made learning resource was developed with an idea of developing the system thinking skills of the learners through creating conceptual models. The learners were grouped into two; the control group studied the lessons through watching learning videos and the experimental group worked on the ASI activity sheets. The learners in the experimental group went through three sequential levels; Analysis, Synthesis and Implementation as they answer the activity sheets. There were four activities prepared covering the Central Dogma in Molecular Genetics. The control group got a mean score difference of 8. 35. On the other hand, the experimental group achieved a higher mean which is 11.54. Moreover, both groups were classified as having Low Mastery (LM) in the competency but after the intervention the control group improved into Moving Towards Mastery (MTM) category and the experimental group have reached the category, Mastered. The results were statistically treated at 0.05 level of significance. It revealed that there is a significant difference in the performance level of the students in analyzing the vital role of DNA, RNA and proteins in the transmission of the hereditary traits through learning video and ASI activity sheet.\r\n-G.E.
