Abstract:
Reading is a fundamental skill that serves as the foundation for all other forms of learning. Children who learn to read well from an early age are better prepared to face more difficult subjects as they go through school. Building upon this context, this study assessed the effectiveness of Pantig at Salita Board Game in developing the beginning reading skills in Filipino of Grade 1 pupils. The respondents of this study were the twenty-three (23) Grade 1 pupils of Langlangca Elementary School for the School Year 2022-2023. This study utilized true experimental research, specifically the two-group pretest-posttest research design. The data-gathering instrument that was used in this study is a validated researcher-made competence test. The test is composed of two components namely: a) Pagbasa ng mga Pantig with 10 items; and b) Pagbasa ng mga Salita with 10 items. Data were treated using mean and t-test for independent samples. As a result, the study demonstrated that both experimental and control groups initially had moderate skill levels with mean scores of 10.72 and 11.00, respectively. After the intervention, the experimental group\'s skills significantly increased to a very high level with a mean score of 18.45, while the control group reached a high level with a mean score of 15.36. This highlights the effectiveness of the Pantig at Salita Board Game in enhancing learners\' beginning reading skills. Incorporating this intervention in teaching beginning reading is highly recommended.
