Abstract:
The Action Research generally aimed to determine the effectiveness of the TRIAD Approach in improving the numeracy skills of Grade 6 learners in Tandoc Elementary School for the School Year 2022-2023. The study utilized a descriptive - quantitative and experimental research approach to attain the objectives and answer the specific questions raised in the study. The 20 participants in the study were grouped into control and experimental group, selected through teacher-made pre-assessment tool and used to identify the level of numeracy skills of the learners. The study revealed that before the utilization of the TRIAD Approach the two groups of learners were considered poorly numerate as revealed by the mean score of 5.6 and 5.1 respectively. The findings also shows that the control group have no improvement after the series of intervention as compared to experimental group whose result in the post assessment manifest improvement as based form the mean score of 10.4 and 15. On the other hand, there is no significant difference in the performance of control group and experimental group as based on pre-assessment scores with the computed p-value of 0.509. It was also found out that there is a significant difference on the level of numeracy skills of the control group as compared to experimental group as based on post assessment score which is revealed by computed p-value of 0.000. Furthermore, there is a significant difference on the level of numeracy skills of the experimental group before and after the implementation of the intervention through TRIAD Approach, manifested by the computed p-value of 0.000. The teacher-researcher concludes that TRIAD Approach is an effective intervention to improve the numeracy skills of the learners. Thus, it is recommended that teachers may utilized the TRIAD Approach not just to improve numeracy skills but rather enhance the learners skill in mathematics. The TRIAD Approach may also be applicable to other subject areas to improve and enhance learners skill in reading, writing, and others.
