Abstract:
A good mental health is a vital aspect of student learning. It is a primal ingredient in having a successful academic life. Nevertheless, at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and the New Normal the levels of negative emotions such as depression, anxiety, and stress had increased exponentially among students that affect their mental health. Hence, to bolster students’ mental health, it is essential to consider strategies to lower the levels of negative emotions that affects it. Activities such as psychosocial interventions are necessary to address this most especially during the new normal educational situation. The aim of this study was to improve the mental health of Grade 12 HUMSS Students at Turac National High School by mitigating their levels of depression, anxiety, and stress through the Project SHELTER (Spiritual Health Enrichment Leveraging from Talent Enhancement & Recreation). The researcher used purposive sampling in this experimental method research. Pre-test and Post-test were utilized as data-gathering methods. The instrument for data analysis was DASS 21. For the statistical treatment of data, the researcher used frequency count, percentage, and t-test for independent samples. Data analysis purported that the levels of depression, anxiety, and stress had been reduced upon administering the intervention. The results of the study established that the project SHELTER improved the Mental Health of the Grade 12 HUMSS students. Thus, it is recommended to teachers, school administrations, and guidance counsellors to utilize the Project Shelter as a Psychosocial Intervention.
