Abstract:
This study sought to enhance the performance of the Grade 10 SPA Media Arts students of Alaminos City National High School in Cinematography. This study is action research and utilized the single group-pretest-posttest design. Students in tenth grade were chosen for this study due to their combined filmmaking experience and the fact that their prior group project, "Hello," demonstrated a lack of cinematography skills. The researcher-teacher therefore made use of the Purposive Sampling method.\r\n\r\nThe teacher-researcher utilized weekly sessions in Three Point Lighting Styles Techniques to enhance the Cinematography skills of the Students. After the conduct of the intervention, the students reproduced the short film “HELLO”. The evaluators from the North Luzon Cinema Guild again assessed the post-intervention output of the students to identify their improvement in their cinematography skills. The results in the pre-intervention and post-intervention evaluations indicated a 136.364% increase in the functional lighting skills; 116.67% in creative lighting skills; 38.39% in basic camera work and in 50% creative camera work. The overall cinematography skills increased by 66.67%. This means that the result in the post-intervention evaluation is higher than the scores of the students in the pre-intervention evaluation. The use of the Three Lighting Styles had a positive impact of student’s cinematography skills in their shots. The results indicate further that the cinematography of the students in the reproduced film have more powerful impact on emotional response. Audiences experience higher levels of emotional response and sense of realism and believability when there is lighting that congruent with the storyline.
