With best efforts to strengthen the culture of research in the Region and come up with best research outputs, the Policy, Planning and Research Division (PPRD) spearheads the conduct of writeshop on journal writing and seminar on presentation for the recipients of Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) for 2017 basic research grantees and 2018 action research grantees. The activities are initiated by the PPRD chief, Dr. Cecilia Rosido.
The writeshop on Journal Writing is a three-day activity which was held on November 14-16, 2019 at the Villas Buenavista, Ili Sur, San Juan, La Union. The activity is conducted to incorporate the comments and suggestions of the Regional Research Committee (RRC) and blind reviewers on the researcher’s research journal, and to finalize the 2nd Edition of the refereed research journal of DepEd – Regional Office. Greatly encouraged by the words of wisdom of the new OIC-Regional Director, Tolentino G. Aquino, the researchers are equally excited to see him for the first time. The researchers’ peak of dynamism and drive is sustained as Dr. Alfonso Yangat, the then regional supervisor of QAD now a Public Schools District Supervisor of Pangasinan I, inspires them with his motivational talk. Two resource speakers in the person of Dr. Feljone Ragma from SDO-Ilocos Sur and Dr. Edwina Manalang, EPS-QAD, share their expertise on the different parts and rudiments of Basic and Action researches which are anchored to the Research Management Guidelines. They are joined by Dr. Leah Olua as evaluators during the writeshop where they patiently read and critiqued the researches submitted. The next two days are rigid, mind-boggling activities for the researchers as they keep refining their researches and returning back the revised copy to the evaluators for review and editing. After thorough evaluation, the research papers are submitted for plagiarism check and gunning fog index which tests the readability of the paper to the intended audience. All researchers have finalized and submitted their journals for publication on the third day.
A seminar on presentation shortly followed on November 17-18, 2019 at the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) RO1 to orient the researchers on the Research Congress to be held on November 18-20, 2019, to coach them on the proper delivery of results of their study during the Research Congress, and to orient them on the proper presentation of slide decks and posters. The researchers did a mock presentation where comments and suggestions were given by the evaluators. The final list of the oral presenters for the research congress is then announced and the rest of the researchers shall be doing the poster presentation. Further, agreement was made that all the researchers will be displaying their posters during the congress.
Indeed, the two activities are very fruitful and everybody is looking forward with zeal of enthusiasm and gusto for the upcoming Regional Research Congress.
